During November, another student project came to life with our enthusiastic support. Introducing CorCast, a podcast focused on education, practical advice, and motivation, featuring relevant and prominent guests from the worlds of medicine and sports. The central theme is the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
The podcast was created by students participating in our pilot project, who were involved in every stage of its realization. The team includes Jovana Papović (Faculty of Economics, University of Kragujevac), Milan Ajder (Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad), Branislav Beković (Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade), Katarina Lukanović (Faculty of Technology, University of Belgrade), and Konstantin Nikolić (Faculty of Agriculture, University of Novi Sad).
The first guest of CorCast was Nemanja Aleksić, a cardiac surgeon and Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, working at the Cardiac Surgery Clinic of the University Clinical Center of Serbia and founder of the Brazilian jiu-jitsu club “Vin.” Jovana spoke with Nemanja about the roles of sports, nutrition, sleep, stress management, and discipline in preventing cardiovascular diseases, which affect a large portion of Serbia’s population.
The second guest was Mojsije Anđić, a specialist in internal medicine and cardiology. Milan discussed with Mojsije the causes and prevention of cardiovascular diseases, as well as the rehabilitation of patients suffering from them.
The guest of the third episode was nutritionist Sanja Ćirić, a clinical dietitian with over 15 years of practical experience in planning, implementing, evaluating, and coordinating diets for hospital patients at the Obesity Center of the Clinical Center of Serbia. Jovana and Sanja aimed to demystify myths about nutrition, discuss how to lead a healthy and happy life, and explore the impact of diet on the cardiovascular system, the “blue zone” diet, and more.
The final guest of this season of CorCast was Marko Banović, a specialist in internal medicine and subspecialist in cardiology. Marko is an associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, and works at the Cardiology Clinic of the University Clinical Center of Serbia. Together with Branislav, he addressed topics such as the findings of the AVATAR study, Serbia’s first international medical study, how nutrition and physical activity can combat cardiovascular diseases, and why preventive check-ups should not be feared.
Although CorCast was initially envisioned as a short-term project, we believe it has the potential to grow beyond the pilot project framework of the Foundation and become a long-term initiative. We extend our gratitude to sponsors El Pharma and Biofar, who recognized the importance of this topic and supported young people in this endeavor.
