On Saturday 25. In other news, The Milos Bikovic Foundation held its first public event, “Network – Knowledge Forum”, at the Opera and Theatre Madlenianum in Zemun.
The aim of this gathering was to present the mission and goals of the Foundation to the general public, but above all to bring together the participants of the pilot project, our mentors and associates, giving them a unique opportunity for networking. In one place there were the best students and young talents, top experts in various fields, from our country and around the world.
Following the format of the scientific conference, “Network – Knowledge Forum” hosted eight speakers, while simultaneously providing artistic content to the audience. The moderators were Miloš Biković and Veronika Tasić Vušurović, a member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation. They presented three basic pillars of the Foundation’s pilot project, namely soft skills strengthening, mentoring program and platform for interconnecting students and networking with experts. There was also talk about plans for the future, primarily the inclusion of a larger number of young people in the Foundation’s programs.
The event was opened by the trio P Piccolo, whose cellist Pavle Rakočević, a participant of our pilot project. The second part of the music program was performed by the duo Hilares, led by Mina Matijašević, also our student.
Leaders in science and art: from particle physics to film directing
Vladimir Cmiljanović, founder and CEO of swiss company Swiss Rockets, which is engaged in research of the latest technologies in oncology, spoke with Milos, where, in a dynamic discussion, he spoke about his undertakings in the field of medical innovation.
Dragana Rogulja, a neuroscientist, professor of neurobiology at Harvard Medical School, who leads a team of researchers in her laboratory, presented groundbreaking research on the ways in which sleep and the body interact. A young researcher from her laboratory, Ethan Glanz, spoke about his findings and the way our memories change our behavior, using the example of male wine fly research.
Jovana Grahovac, full professor at the Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Technology, University of Novi Sad, spoke about the biotechnological solutions she deals with. She is also one of the founders of the Association of Women Scientists of Serbia SRNA, so she shared with us her thoughts on how to improve the commercialization of research.
James Beacham, a physicist who studies experimental particle physics and promoter of science, a researcher in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, gave an exciting lecture on black holes and the latest insights in this field, successfully bringing the narrative of contemporary physics closer to the general public.
Borko Furt (Furht)Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computing at the University of Florida Atlantic and a member of the advisory board of the Research and Development Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia, spoke about his decades-long experience of working at universities across the United States, as well as how he obtained over 12 patents, many of which are now used on streaming platforms such as Netflix.
Aleksandra Cvetanović Kljakić, research associate at the Faculty of Technology in Novi Sad, winner of major international awards, spoke about her study of bioactive molecules of natural origin, their extraction from natural sources, and how these biomolecules will provide us with healthier and better quality foods.
Klim Šipenko (Shipenko), one of Milos’ closest associates from Russia and a director with whom he achieved numerous film successes, led by the film “Challenge”, the first in history to be shot in space, spoke, together with Milos, about the experience of pushing boundaries in the seventh art.
We are happy to have started to weave this network of knowledge: with our experts, with guests who have joined us from all over the world, and especially with talented young people – students we support, as well as those who show great potential.
We hope that we have thus laid the foundation for future projects and showed how we encourage cooperation between young talents and experienced experts from different fields of science, economy and art, all with the aim of merging the best with the best and giving the right wind in the sails of our young talents
